City Attorney
The City Attorney serves as in-house legal counsel to the City of Merrill as a municipal entity. The City Attorney provides legal counsel on any question raised by the Mayor, or members of the City Council. Any committee, board, or commission may request the City attorney’s advice, legal opinion, or interpretation of the law. The City Attorney’s office drafts or reviews contracts for the City, land acquisitions, annexations, collection of past due taxes, and files lawsuits on behalf of the City. The City Attorney also prosecutes all ordinance violations, traffic citations, housing and fire code violations and violations of the City ordinances involving animals. The City Attorney's Office houses one full-time attorney and assistant.
